Vector logo: which files you get and why CDR, EPS, PDF, PNG, JPG

After logo design you receive several files at once. Here is a simple explanation of vector vs raster and which format to send where – to a printer, a website or Instagram.

Vector vs raster

A vector logo is built from mathematically defined lines and shapes, so it never loses quality at any size – from an Instagram avatar to a large sign, print, packaging or ads.

A raster image is made of pixels. Stretch it beyond its size and you get blurry edges.

If you only have a logo as a JPG made “quickly” once, that’s the main reason for problems with print and signage.

Formats you receive

Which file to send where

Printer, signage, embroidery, engraving – CDR, EPS or PDF.
Website and social media – PNG with a transparent background.
Documents, presentations, messengers – PNG or JPG.

Text in the logo files is converted to outlines, so you don’t need to install the font to use the logo.

Mockups are not print

Along with the files you get logo mockups showing how it looks on a sign, cup or packaging. Real print may differ in colour and material, so always approve the layout with your printer.

How to store your logo files

Save the archive in several places: your computer, the cloud and email. We additionally keep copies for about 6 months after the project, but after delivery file safekeeping is your responsibility.
