Starting a business: what you need before launch

1. A name that’s easy to remember

The name should be easy to read, pronounce and find on Google and Instagram. Check that the domain and social handles are free and that there’s no registered trademark with the same name. You choose the name – we don’t do naming, but we’ll show how it works as a logo.

2. The logo comes before the sign and packaging

The most common mistake is ordering the sign, business cards and cups first and the logo “later”. Then everything has to be reprinted. The logo is the foundation of all your materials. 3. Vector files and rights

Make sure you get the logo in vector (CDR, EPS, PDF) plus property rights. Without vector files a printer can’t enlarge the mark properly, and without rights trademark registration can be a problem. See vector logo files explained.

4. Minimum materials for launch

• sign or plate;
• business cards or flyers;
• Instagram avatar and templates;
• packaging, stickers or menu – depending on your business.

5. Online presence

• a Google Business profile with logo, photos and hours;
• Instagram with a designed header and first 9 posts;
• a simple page or website with contacts and prices.
